Oh, "packed decimals" is the name, right? I suppose that it is technically the same, or similar, to BCD (binary coded decimals). The name "packed applies - I think - because two digits are "packed" into each byte.
Well, I think that any client or user has to be educated, at least to a certain extent, about the limitations and scope of the different data types, and the fact that floating-point numbers are inherently inexact (or "almost exact").
