A lot of norwegians also go to those parts of the world, my only guess is that the Canary Islands are more popular, and also that maybe norwegians are more reluctant to leave home during the Christmas seasons.

>:-) (incidentally, I've got Norwegian blood, via Matheson from the Shetlands). A few years ago I went on a diving holiday to Egypt, in Feb. To us it was nicely warm, c. 22 - 25 C, and we wore T-shirts and shorts, but to the Egyptions (and the ex patria Brits) they were still in their winter (which we felt we'd escaped in UK) and they wore padded jackets and scarves. While we sunbathed on boat deck our ex pat. guide was huddled up and sheltering from the wind.

As you may know, we also have a lot of immigrants from the far east. Last summer I heard an interview with an ex Pakistan family about how they liked the climate, and they "of course" said it was cold. But they thought the summer was worst, because they wanted to use warm jackets, but would not risk being laughed at by the native norwegians. As you wrote, perception of warmth is all relative.
