I use naming conventions to avoid field/variable conflicts, but I also use Mdot because of this BY DESIGN behavior WHICH CANNOT BE TURNED OFF. Also, as a side benefit, while many will argue that it makes your code "ugly", IMHO, it makes code immediately more readable to someone who is not intimately familliar with the purpose, tables and variables that are in scope, programmer's style or naming conventions by removing any doubt in the reader's mind about what it is without having to look any further that the current line of code.
