I have sent you a tool to your personal e-mail. Its an ODBC switching utility. I work on a system where I switch between three SQL servers - Live, Test and Development. The system sees the same ODBC connection name but the switcher facilities the updating of the connection details. This is used in a commercial environment and it works very well. I don't know whether its exactly what you are looking for but it might help.
