I think that Word's "worst feature" is having so many "features" that work partially and/or have 'names' that I would never guess so have little choice to use trial and error to isolate the 'feature's control option(s) in the first place!

Word 2003 continues to have the same bugs I encountered in Word97.
Word has 'modernized' many of it popup menus but it still never provides a "Add bookmark" option in a popup andthough it has 3 to add/edit/delete a hyperlink.

All in all I find that Word works pretty well if I choose to do a simple document without using header/footer or picture inserts or frames with text in them or bullets/numbering. Anything more complicated is asking for trouble, which I get often because my use necessarily has to include other fancier stuff.

It's also dated (at least to me) that I have to close a dialog in order to see that actual effect(s) I choose in the dialog. If it's a surprise (not what I expected I then have to do a whole lot more mousing just to get the dialog back again. Hate that!!!

I have little to offer by way of praise for Word but am in the same boat as 95% plus - I have to use it!

cheers

>First of all, despite the title, I want to state that I have nothing against MS-Word in general; it is a great program, in general terms.

>But one so-called feature in Word has made me despair more than once. That is the feature in which Word automatically selects a style, based on the format of a text. As a result, you will often see text marked, for example, with the style "Header 7", when the text was not meant to be a header.

>Of course, I have turned this "feature" off, as well as a few other features (1). But there is really not much I can do about it: the problems usually appear with other people's documents.

>(1) A "feature" that is really dangerous is to automatically apply suggestions from the spell-checker. If you are not paying attention, Word might replace any nonsense for a mis-spelled word - or even for a word it simply doesn't find in its dictinoary. Perhaps this one should receive the honor of being called the "worst feature"?
