No idea about VisionShape's CS-500,I would suggest canon for scanning as its value for money.

Time back developed an application for tracking time-lapsed checks and have preserved under DMS(Document Management System) built through VFP8 and Oracle. Currently managing 15 Million records of varied type includeing membership application form and cheques and transaction papers and customer complaints.
