I agree on not sending the source code. Mel owns the copyright. In the US, copyright can ONLY be transfered in writing. If it was me, I would register the code with the US Copyright Office now(I personnal have never done) and this prevents the client from maintaining the code without paying you. If he bypasses the copyright, send him a $150,000 bill (per the copyright laws).
