New Year 1977, roommate and I had a bunch of cards from the Varian 72 system we had at the college, so we just put postage stamps on them and used them as greeting cards. One of our friends' father was shocked: "what do they want now? I've paid the electricity for this month".

The mere sight of a punched card was enough... he didn't even notice that we wrote the address and "happy new" using a thick black marker.
