I had posted a response, then Bonnie made me realize you were talking about WebForms (sorry, didn't read the category header). Her syntax will work, it was mainly an issue of using [] instead of ().

Just an additional thought...if your grid is bound to a datatable or dataview, you may sometimes find it easier to perform an ADO.NET SUM() on the data to which the column is bound.
