Just to throw another log on the fire. I have a similar problem but it
specifically is a problem with Grids based on a view. We recently reloaded
the Netware Server but are still having problems.
I do not have the same "Record is in use by another user" error , but the
TABLEUPDATE() seems to fail even if we are checking for a return value of
.t..

>This sounds like a Netware problem. You may want to try running
Microsoft's client instead of Novell's (your client may not like this
solution, though). It may also be an issue with the maximum number of
record locks the server is set to allow. I really don't do much with
Netware anymore so I can't remember exaclty what setting needs to be
changed. Maybe someone else here will chime in.

>>I'm having a problem in an application running at a client site with
Win95 workstations on a Novell 4.11 network. I have 24 tables open in
optimistic table buffering mode, and perform various buffered changes to
the files. All my tableupdates are wrapped in a transaction, where I
attempt to update each file. If I encounter a problem, the entire
transaction is rolled back. The problem I'm having is with one particular
file. It intermittantly fails to update, with the "Record is in use by
another user" error. However, this happens when nobody else is on the
network. Also, if I suspend the program at this point and go to another
workstation, I can use the file on the network and make changes to the very
record that the application is not able to update. I have tried loading
the latest Novell client versions, but this does not solve the problem.

read the whole description, I could really use some new input. Thanks in
advance for your help.
