I can't help you with pubs and discos. I didn't like 'em when I was younger and still don't. <g>

David's advice for seeing a Broadway show is good. The last time my family spent any time in NY, we really enjoyed a boat ride around Manhattan Island. It was about a 1-2 hour trip, with a guide who talked about what we were seeing. I think it the Circle Line.

Be aware that eating is New York is fun but expensive. Also, that in most delis, the sandwich you get would feed a family of four, so sharing a sandwich is a good idea.
