Anyone had any success in connecting to MYSQL on Linux using the latest MYSQL ODBC driver 3.5.10?

I've tried lost of connection strings and either I get an "Could not determine driver name so could not lookup setup library." error from odbc or VFP8 and VFP9 crash with fatal exception C0000005 errors.

The old standby gn=sqlconnect('mysql','root','bingo') gives the can't find setup library error. Trying a DSNless version produces the fatal exception.
