Kevin,
I know you had looked at this before. I was looking into this problem for about 30 minutes this afternoon and I also came up blank. Please let me know if you find anything.
I have not yet made up my mind if I will display the close button in the control or not. I am going pretty much the same route as you, with my own close button or just make the user use the window close button (way up in the right corner).
I guess the main purpose for capturing the close button click is that I also want to capture some of the other button clicks.
