I don't know if that'll help much, as it's not addressing the problem. If you haven't done so already I'd recommend setting up printing on your network as follows:

1. Set up the JetDirect to support TCP/IP with a fixed IP address. Disable other protocols.
2. Set up the queue (shared printer) on the NT Server to print to that printer using a Standard TCP/IP port (NOT an HP JetDirect port).
3. Disable any special printer options e.g. bidirectional communication. Make sure that if the driver allows specification of printer RAM that you set it to match what is actually in the printer.
4. Make sure your network users are printing to the NT queue, not directly to the HP JetDirect, so that NT handles the queue.

HP does not have a sterling reputation for printer software. I suggest setting up as above so that you are not using any HP-specific print monitor, rather, you're using the plain-Jane Microsoft TCP/IP print monitor.

You may start with the PCL6 driver. If that has problems, you can try the PCL5e driver. If necessary, you can then fall back to a LaserJet 4 driver, but you might run into tray issues. Hopefully you won't have to go that far.
