Well, I think I've been looking at the screen too long. Your suggestion to put the wait window in the setfocus of the first activepage txtbox tipped me off. It worked. And guess what. I assumed that txtboxes added to pages default to enabled=.T. Apparently they don't, at least not with the wizstyle class. They default to enabled=.F. with the display properties (colors, etc.) looking like regular old txtboxes, so I didn't catch it. The setfocus command was blowing right by all of the txtboxes on the page.

So see, you thought you didn't help. Thanks to you and everyone else for the help.
