The Internet Explorer Browser was defaulted to the Western European Encoding, at least on the one at work. I'll have to check my home PC's. I was using both Netscape and Internet Explorer's Browsers and had the same problem until I preceded the ASCII numeric characters with the & (Ampersand) and the # (Pound sign). Example ê. This gave me an accented ê.

>I have written Web pages without using the numeric codes for accented characters, just typing the character in my text editor. However, it seems likely that in this case, the contents may, or may not, be displayed correctly, depending on whether the correct encoding is selected.

>I think the encoding can both be specified in the Web page itself, and selected in the browser.
