I would use SCATTER NAME and GATHER NAME. The object thus created can easily be manipulated, for instance, to have a unique PK.

>how do I create a duplicate record in a table. The table does have memo fields. Also this table has a default value that creates a primary key (for example nextid("fscgnt_tbl"). I also need to modify one field while duplicating the record. I thought about selecting the record into a cursor, then modifying the single field and then writing it out, but I also have a child table where where I may need to gather several records at a time and need a single field changed on those records. I don't know if scan...endscan is best way to go about or is there another more efficient technique?

Difference in opinions hath cost many millions of lives: for instance, whether flesh be bread, or bread be flesh; whether whistling be a vice or a virtue; whether it be better to kiss a post, or throw it into the fire... (from Gulliver's Travels)
