I agree with you. Opening a connection to AS400 (or any database for that matter) can be amazingly quick at a given site, or it can be horribly slow.

I've seen both single connection and multiple connection apps working well. In general, persistent shared connections in VFP seem to work very well for us. It is worth remembering that each connection requires memory at the server end. We had a UK customer whose app worked fine with 300 users and up to 50 connections each but went haywire with 1000 users. Sharing persistent connections made them very happy.
