Can someone please explain to me the syntax of the SPT code?

What is the difference in the UpdateNameList and the UpdateableFieldList?
Do both of these have to have the same field names?
I have noticed that I can list the UpdateNameList in several lines of code but I can not get the UpdateableField List to read more than the last code line.
