I append a blank record to the remote view of the Oracle table, I replace each field of the remote view with the contents of the fields in the VFP table. I then do a tableupdate(). I skip to the next record in the VFP table and start again.

Are you using the Oracle ODBC drivers or Microsoft ODBC drivers? You would need to launch the ODBC Administrator to see which drivers are being used. The Oracle ODBC drivers are not the drivers of choice. The 32bit drivers from MS include drivers for Oracle and work great. They are also free from the MS web site. See my article in the KB under Articles, Client Server for the actual URL.
