>> You are a brave soul for reading Fowler's POEAA. Its not designed to be read from cover to cover but mostly as a reference book for you to refer to from time to time. Many of those patterns deal with the separation of business and data access logic (see Data Mapper). Most of those patterns have also already been implemented by third party vendors so you don't have to write all that code yourself. <<

Your are sure correct. I gone the book about 2 months ago (?) and was having trouble reading it from "cover to cover." I stopped and started to play with patterns one at a time (i.e, table data gateway). I think I'm up to 3 or 4 now.

I originally got Fowler's Refactor book and was so impressed I got his enterprise pattern (POEAA) book.

After learning NUnit (unit testing) and some patterns, I having trouble when I have going back to my old VFP code to do maintenance. :-)

Thanks for the comments, John
