I don't see why SEEK + FOUND() would work if SEEK() doesn't work...

I don't think this would be normal behavior for VFP. I never met or heard about something like that. Normally, VFP should wait until it gets the file or VFP should generate an error. As I said, I don't believe that the network is the problem.
