Thanks to all for the suggestions. I found the same thing on the VFUG site. Apparently when you run or rerun the SELECT, it invalidates the INTO cursor. When that cursor is used as the resordsource for the grid, it gets invalidated and I guess you have to manually refresh it after you run the SELECT. (I wonder if this is corrected in vfp8 or 9) The grid shows up as white space or empty.
The VFUG site answer was to reset the grid recordsource property to itself. i.e. thisform.grid1.recordsource = thisform.grid1.recordsource ... I didn't have much luck with this though.
I think I like Hugo's solution.
