I was wondering myself how else could a method be renamed. Also, I would expect that renaming a method should either do nothing or cause an error, not cause weird behavior... unless there's an error handler eating the error.

Next thing to try is to use Tools/Code References (with the project open) and look for any places where the method may be called by the old name.
