Does any of the data belong in sourcesafe?

What is the best way of updating table structures without losing data in a multi client application?

We have created a payroll application. We have over 1000 clients.
Each client has his own data folder within the main data folder.
In each client's folder, there is a set of tables attached to a container with that client's data.


Ex:
C:\application\data\system tables here, system dbc in here, too.
c:\application\data\data0000 empty client table structures in here and empty cleint dbc in here.
c:\applicaiton\data\data0001 client 0001's set of data
c:\application\data\data0002 client 0002's set of data, etc.


If I need to make a table structure change to the employee table and the employee table is attached to the client dbc and every cleint has an employee tablae with their own employee data, what is the best way to update all my table structures without losing any data?
