Software development is like Sex. Believing that a quasi-certification of particular technology will make you a better developer, is like believing a gold chain around the neck will assure a 'score' at the downtown disco.

And [further more:)], I am not at the top of any game. Still a newbie! The projects are difficult but the work, while tediuos and demanding, is both satifying and enjoyable. Never frustrating. And the projects are much more than VFP. But the point of your generalization is well taken!

The issue may be that we should work on the concept of software development, and a little less on tools. That might make it easier for some of us to adapt to the varied requirements of available projects.

Perhaps NET should be viewed as an application object our projects can use when the requirements make it necessary. Besides, India can deliver all the high quality NET projects the infrastructure needs.

Software is about practice - it's about fun - it's about someone tickling a keyboard connected to a program we wrote.

Seeing NET pasted all over the cover of the UT Magazine was somewhat discomforting. A couple of defunct Foxpro Mags were pitching VB just before they took the plunge. For sure - learning about NET is valuable. Learning how to convert VFP script to NET script - why do it? Just write it fresh in NET.

I would pay the dime to go to a seminar with an agenda to "convert .NET apps to VFP" - let me know when one is scheduled!
