It is a neat program for visually constructing a network and delivering configurations to devices. Something I did within the program would not allow me to set an IP route for the router. That was why I was trying to delete the start up config. Just didn't know enough at the time. On the phone with the T1 provider tech who also knew nothing about Cisco commands and feeling pressured. NO SHUTDOWN would not bring Serial0 up. It is a WIC T1 that the router diagnostics indicated was OK. Will an interface come up and stay up if there is no signal?

Exactly. Did not know that the OS was in flash. But I learned quick enough!

Got the router back from Phoenix today. Got an image from Cisco earlier in the week. Monday I'll hook it all back up and use zModem to load the OS. Maybe then I can get it right!
