Absolutely right. It is the issue of using the right tool for the right job. Set oriented commands are great of processing chunks of data, but in generally a terrbible of processing record oriented processes. Xbase commands are inferiour in SET oriented processing, ISAM is inferiour because there might be a network bottleneck between the internal processing of the command and the data. But what many people don't understand is that both SET and RECORD oriented data processing are valuable.
Currently SET oriented processing is the most developped one and probably the most important one (the relational model is build on it). However RECORD oriented processing is valuable too. VFP (and other tools as well) has demonstrated this for many years. It seems to escape the majority of the crowd that in a lot of ERP/ERM software record oriented processing is very important.
