That's why I said, worry only about the number of bytes. I always deemed the part of the manual that says "limit, 1 billion records" as completely superfluous - because you can never get more than that, without breaking the other limit. 2 billion bytes / 2 bytes per record = 1 billion records - and no record can have less than 2 bytes (one byte for the smallest field, one byte for the deletion mark).

Probably the only reason you are limited to 1 billion records is, because there is a 2 billion limit on the number of bytes.
