Found the problem. It was not the prg being denied access but the .fxp and/or the .bak files. Their attributes had also been changed to read-only, so when I tried to save the changes, VFP could not back-up or compile the file. Ohhhh but of course, if only it had become obvious earlier in the day.

Thanks Chuck, read-only was the issue. Can modify, save and smile again
