The Sql Server Express is replacement for MSDE 2000. According to Product Lifecycle Dates for SQL 2000 at http://support.microsoft.com/gp/lifesrvr, "Mainstream support will end 2 years after the next version of this product is launched. Extended support will end 5 years after Mainstream support ends".
