I don't remember where I heard that, but it wasn't from MS. My personal experience is that Java apps suck big time. I've had many problems with different applications that won't work together because the use different versions of the JVM. Also, most of the Java apps I've seen have a terrible UI. Generally this happens because it has to run on multiple machines, so the UI is designed for the least common stuff.
