Well there is good news and bad news to report on this;

Good News: the DLL stopped crashing [YEAH!]
Bad News: the scanner is not functioning as the program is returning error codes instead of processing the checks. The error codes really don't fit the circumstances so am now waiting for responses from the vendor.
