Yes and no... the "right-wing" is primarily religious Christian Fundamentalists and they presently control the levers of power. There are lots of Republicans who are not "right-wing" but more "conservative' right-of-centre not ruled by peculiar religious beliefs.
The "right-wing" effectively wants their brand of Christianity to rule the world and would happily see nukes dropped on non-Christian countries. Since the Bible is exactly "God's word" they take the hardest interpretations possible and have no allowance for deviations of any kind. That 'God is love' is only meaningful, in their eyes, if you follow the Bible exactly as THEY interpret it. All others are disposible trash who really should be here except as a pool of possible converts.
