1- Only fails on a machine (you can copy to another one and everything works fine, access from another pc and everything is ok.That's a wierd one! If VFP exes are on each machine - I would make sure they are all the same "version". It would be easy to suspect that one machine is using a different code page.
Maybe:
If you can see the record in browse - delete it, pack the file. Then [re] add the record and reindex.
