The commercial frameworks would be a good choice, leave the plumbing to someone else so you concentrate on the business rules.
I have built my own framework and I'm continually updating it, it's working really well for me and it allows me to create forms and apps really quickly and best of all I have control and know it like the back of my hand so I can make changes to the framework at any time, BIG advantage. Right now I'm working on making it tiered and I'm about half way there. I use it mainly for SQL Server but I'm going to make it work with MySql too.
If you would like to try it and maybe use it I'll be happy to share.
