My theory is that you don't emphasize mtdlls with WWC because you've invested so much time and effort into your isapi extension and this is your proprietary code - emphasizing mtdlls could possibly make your commercial product less necessary because they work so well with ASP.NET/ASP. That's my only explanation since vfp mtdlls are an obvious improvement to all web development that's gone before in vfp.

If this was true I wouldn't say that ASP.NET is better technology.

I try to be as objective as I can be in this case. I've been looking for the best technology with VFP for 10 years. Web Connection was around before there was any Fox Web interface at all. Years before there even was an ASP. When ASP came around in 1997/8 I thought that Web Connection would be done because the technology looked very promising at the time. Well, it wasn't... definitely not at the start. It took VFP to catch up with VFP 7 and even then there were lots of problems. The first even remotely stable platform for ASP was IIS 6.

I would happily recommend ASP+COM or use of MTDLLs or at least provide better support for them in Web Connection if it was the better solution (like I do for pure ASP.NET). However, I don't think that ASP/ASP.NET + COM this technology has any advantage over what Web Connection currently does other than that it comes from Microsoft and is free.

I always encourage people to check out all options. I don't claim Web Connection is the best solution for everyone. Everybody has different tastes and needs for their development. Go out and check out your options and find what works for you.

However, Web Connection still does very well today which is saying something as it is and has been essentially in competition with free tools from Microsoft since ASP came out - I get calls almost daily who have played with ASP COM objects and are not happy with the way this process works.

There's more to it than just the product but it's also trust in a vendor who's been around and has supported the community and who supports their products religously. It's not all about technology either. But that's another story...
