Again, Dean, we do see things differently.
You've coined a good term, but in fact it is the "respectability" that the named persons have that insulates them from being branded as such. Who could even think that such as those named could be branded as such!?
So they get to make statement like I've mentioned and get away with still being respected. In most cases they humbly apologize for such a statement, but their adherents know full well that it is done with a 'nudge-nudge wink-wink' to placate the foolish masses. A win-win situation... the adherents know the truth and remain happy and the complainers can have no more issue (even though they too know the apology is just empty words made necessary by the complainers).

Today BS rules the day and these guys have it down to an artform.
