It's not for display only purpose like a label. You'd be letting the user enter some value and doing something with it elsewhere in code.

I rarely use them. I'd say 98% of the time I bind to a field, 1.9% of the time I bind to a property and 0.1% bind to nothing. (This is a guesstimate I didn't do a complete analysis of every form/class I've ever worked on *bg*)
