My point is, responsible owners can not do anything about rogue owners because it opens them up to collusion. So the only way to control rogue owners and protect teams from Canada and small market US teams is a salary cap. The free market approach does not really work in pro sports where you have a very small market. Has the salary cap in the NBA and NFL cost the superstar players superstar salaries? No. Except for the Yankees, when you look at all pro sports rosters there are only 1, 2 or maybe 3 really high dollar players. The rest are either really solid or role players making salaries usually commensurate with their skills and production. Salary caps really server to level the playing field, keep the leagues competitive as well as healthy.

News Flash: There seems to be a flury among some of the NHL players to continue the negotions and get a deal struck today or tomorrow. Bill Guerin (Union VP and Dallas Stars player) made a last minute cancellation on a local radio sports show, and has sent Jason Arnott to do his show for him. Apparently, Bill has taken an air flight to parts unknown. Stay tuned...

>I argued that idiot owners offering HUGE salaries are the problem and that THAT problem ought not be placed on the shoulders of the players.

>I don't care if there are salary caps... just not because owners cannot control themselves so they pass the problem on to the players.
