One way I think they can reduce the Clutch & Grap and the trap would be to have all rinks go to the International size. It's 15 feet wider. This will, in my opinion, open up the game. Some cities might complain, since they like the tight check smaller surfaces. But I believe the faster pace will make the game more entertaining to watch.
I also believe that goalie equipment has gotten way to large. Drydan could make great saves without all that padding. Several years ago Dick Irvin Jr. mentioned that the average score of a game thoughout the history of the NHL was 5-3. In the last few years there has been a drop in scoring. Shots that would have been a goal 15 years ago. Are deflected off of the huge padding.
