Oops, I should have said "No, I don't know of a way of restoring the keystrokes via Windows."

Sometimes Spyware does strange things I suspect to keep you from closing the window. The loss of hot-keys could be just a side effect.

A much scarier scenario is: There is also Spyware that tries to grab your keystrokes and if you have that, it may be purposely disabling the cut and paste to stop you from copying a password and it not getting it.

I got spyware / adware once real bad and all sorts of stuff got added to my add / remove programs.

For free you can get, LavaSoft's Adaware Personal edition. Watch out on that one, there are a lot of imposters out there using variations of "Ad A Ware", Ad-a-ware" etc. Goto: http://www.lavasoft.com/ for it.

There is also Spybot Search And Destroy. I still have it loaded, and oddly enough, there is nothing in their software that says where to find them on the web. It's available on Downloads.com.

Anyway, the free steps I took were:

I loaded the programs and did the online updates.

I unplugged my computer from the net.

I unloaded all the bogus programs. There were a lot. Most were tasks bar helpers, shopping helpers, search bars, and one even called itself ad destroyer or something like that.

Ran SpyBot and Adaware. Each found things the other didn't.
Rebooted in Safe mode and ran both of them again.
Ran Norton System works to clean up the registry.

That made my computer useable, but I did still get a lot of pop ups when I was online.

It wasn't until I purchased Spy Sweeper at a store that all my problems were solved. You can also get it at http://www.webroot.com/. Even after the other 2 packages cleaned up so much, this cleaned up another 677 traces.

This has also made my internet connection faster. When I go to sites like USA today. A good portion of the ads are disabled links it couldn't load. But, I doubt if you go to that site much ;-)

>Hi Ken. Thanks for replying. No you don't what? :-)

>>No, I don't. However, you might want to see if you have a spyware problem that's causing it. I really like Spysweeper, but there are a lot of free ones out there that are pretty good.

>>>Not on my work PC, but on my home PC, I suffered from a few virus attacks some time back. It seems that since then, but not sure if anything to do with it, the pc won't respond to keyboard shortcuts, e.g. CTRL-C for copy, CTRL-V for paste, CTRL-home for top of document etc. It matters not whether I'm in Word, VFP, Notepad or what.
>>>
>>>Is there any means of restoring these via Windows (besides re-installing Windows, which I may have to do at a pinch)?
