In line with the five-player limit, relegate the remaining players into lower division teams, like Soccer enjoys. The First Division team with the worst standing at the end of the season is dropped to Second Division. The best Second Division team would join the First Division at the begining of the next season, and so on.

You could then schedule games according to division. First Division enjoys prime time. Second Division games start at 10 PM and Third Division starts at 2 AM. Just like children’s Ice Hockey! Only instead of using descending age groups use ascending divisions! :)
