If it's not something you have to put in a program, I think I have a small utility somewhere (I'll have to find it) that will do it. If two field names are the same then the length gets stretched out to accomodate the longer one. If there is a discrepancy in field types (same name different field type) they are both converted to character. Let me know if you could use it (email or on this forum) and I'll dig it up.
