Interesting John. Thanks.

P.S. Just heard this morning that Hunter's family is considering blasting his ashes from a cannon during his funeral cermony. heh-heh *Still* 'gonzo'.

>>Hi John,

>>Not having know him personally, I'm sure not to speculate about his motivations or offer any post-mortum tips about his world view. However, his artistic/journalistic contribution has been regarded as valuable. He deliberately wrote in 1st person and was admittedly subjective, believing that the conventional 3rd person objective conventional style didn't withstand analysis and prove credible very often. Maybe your notion that he "didn't think much of anyone" is a reaction to this? He naturally and easily challenged conforming influences believing his own authority would suffice by default. I too such suffer from this affliction. :-) But hey, if we all were the same, all but one of us would be unneccesary. Differentiation, subjectivity, communion: now there's a functional trinity!

>>Regardless, the decision about suicide is very complex and unfortunate. It doesn't have much to do with compasses. It's mostly about pain. Trivia: he grew up in my neighborhood.

>>Thanks John,

>Hi Steven,

>Well, no my take on him is from 30 years of reading people as a cop. He wasn't shy about tweaking other people who seemed too full of themselves, and he didn't take himself very seriously either. (How am I doing so far?) I think he had a lot of pain for whatever reason - life does that to you doesn't it? I am not celebrating his demise, just pointing out that it was all too predictable, given his statements and lifestyle. Care to discuss other's who might tend to do that? I'd say Michael Jackson would bear watching given the scrutiny he's under. I'd put Ozzie Ozborne on the list too. I rolled his fingerprints back in the early 80's in our jail. A foul smelling, vile, drunk who was all but unintelligible at the time - as I recall.

>Call me a cynic, but I guess in my business you learn to read people quickly. Generally, people broadcast a lot of information about themselves by how they dress, talk, walk, etc. He was telling me he was going to live until he got tired of it, and would go out on his terms. I guess that worked for him.
