>>Yup. But if there can be only one super power, I'm glad it the United States. What if North Korea was the super power? Worst yet, what if Iran was the super power.

>>I know I can live with an communist atheist. But to have a religion FORCED down my throat... I rather die.

>I can, sometimes, block out the invocation at public events where the minister prays "In Christ's name" but most of the time I'm irked that a religious invocation is forced upon me at a public function and that it's (almost always) one particular brand of religion.

>I worry that my future grand-children will have to face daily prayer in school, but I'm pretty sure that our society will remain strong enough to make my worries groundless.

It will.
What I don't understand about "The left" is their fear that because of Bush's open christian faith, that some how he is out to force his belief on others. I can think of other things that are far more worrisom.

>While I worry about those who want to force their religion down my throat, I hope that we can get past the point where Nativity scenes, churches participating in parades, and (although I have mixed feelings about this one) the ten commandments are considered "establishment of religion" and treat these as cultural heritage.

Couldn't agree more.
What I hate is hypocrisy in public policies toward one faith over another.

>Like you, I'm very glad to be living in a country where these things are annoyances and not, as in other parts of the world life-threatening. Where I can express these opinions openly and without fear of retribution. Where the segments I really fear are a minority (albeit frequently a vocal one) and where the majority is not too cowed to say that "While I agree with your beliefs I understand that others have the right not to and that we don't have the right to force them to believe as we do."
