Microsoft has allowed marketing to take precedence over technology

Hugo;

Thank you for the reference. Very interesting. It seems like about every five years software development technology and tools have to change. Not always for the sake of improvement but more for the sake of sales. Yes, marketing is where it is at.

Very Interesting - the last four paragraphs make you wonder...

I get the impression the Microsoft goes off half-cocked and commits to a specific path. The entire path is not planned but the original vision sets the tone. Products are sold, and then realization that a dead end path has been taken. The reaction? Another vision is set, complete with a dead end path, and commitment to ship a new product on a specific date.

I must commend Microsoft on its attitude to ship a new product not on a 12-month cycle but rather when it is “ready”. Imagine what Microsoft would be selling if it stuck to its old 12 month cycle? If we have problems with the extended development cycles to “insure a bug free product”, 12 month cycles would produce garbage.

Never fear that next Service Pack will solve all of the present products problems. If that does not suffice then a new product is in order.

Everything related to computers seems replaceable, temporary, and of little importance. The passion of developers helps to prolong the agony of all this. Surely Microsoft will not let us down! :) $$$$$
