I found the problem! I discovered that the export function requires the Microsoft "Graphic Filters" to be installed. The easy way to install this is using the Office 2003 Resource Kit that Microsoft provides on their website. It is at

I figured this out using the regmon utility that tells you which registry entries a program uses. It is found at sysinternals.com
