It is well-known that one of the top priorities of Microsoft is to promote its operating system. In this sense, it is unfortunate that the same company that makes the operating system, also makes many popular applications. If Visual FoxPro - or, for that matter, many of the other titles sold by Microsoft - were made by some independent company (independent, that is, of the operating system), they would have much more incentive to port to other operating systems.
