I don't know that you would care about MS OS updates, but I do remeember the great OS/2 debacle.

OS/2 indeed had a "better Windows than Windows" yet Microsoft killed it off rather easily by distributing a component replacement (that OS/2 modified on-the-fly at startup, I understood). This would break OS/2.

There could be some similar sensitivity with LINUX/Wine. Not likely, but who knows?!
